MP5 Airsoft Guns

- What does the Cocking or Charging lever do on a ICS Mp5 airsoft gun?
I recently bought an ICS mp5 sd5. Im relatively new to airsoft and was wondering what does this lever actually do ? Theres not much in the instructions about it.

- How to lube my AE ICS mp5?
I have recently bought an airsoft elite ics mp5. My friend also has an airsoft elite mp5 but a different style. I also bought some silicone lube. This is my first AEG and to lube it I have to disassemble and lube the gear box or something? This is what my friend said but would I be in good shape if i just sprayed the stuff down the barrel?

A If you recently bought the gun and it was new, then there shouldn't be any reason to lube any of the internal parts, i.e. the gears. Unless you play in an extremely dirty or dusty environment or you drop it in water, dirt or mud, you really shouldn't have to get that in-depth in cleaning. Once a year a check-up should be done by an experienced airsoft technician. Sooner if it's been dropped of course. Just a short spritz of silicone down the barrel every 2-3 weeks is sufficient. More than that and you will gum-up the hop-up. Speaking of hop-up. Be sure to open it all the way up before you run the cleaning rod and patch down the barrel. If you don't, you can damage the rubber sleeve that makes it work. Also, be advised to use only food grade silicone. That which you normally find in sporting goods and auto supply stores has a petroleum base and it will damage all the rubber seals in your gun. Hope these suggestions help.
